welcome back!

NicoleMiller2
Yay for turkey, stuffing and a relaxing weekend with the fam. I had one of those rare weekends where I felt like I managed to both relax and get some work done. I spent some time outside, I lounged on the couch with my sisters... all in all, an excellent holiday. Give me 3 days, and I'm sure I'll be ready for another one! In the mean time.. Nicole Miller's new bridal line has me totally jealous. I can't believe these weren't around when I was engaged! Love the flowy-goddessy vibe, I love even more that there are very reasonably priced options in the collection. I might have actually been able to afford one of these! Jealous!

eye candy to last 'til Monday

maxphoto
I very rarely post about wedding photographers. I think this is primarily because most of them are very city specific. You wouldn't use a great photographer based in Hartford, Connecticut if you were getting married in San Francisco. That being said, Joanna Goddard emailed me yesterday about a post she had up on Smitten of the gorgeous photography of Max Wanger. I just fell in love with these photos. I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that both the bride and groom are very attractive, and very happy... But I have seen the rest of his site, it's all really good! I absolutely love his style. I think that he's based in California, so that means a good portion of you might actually be able to use him (according to the survey, lots of you are reading from Cali). Anyway, I couldn't resist.
I'm signing off until Monday, let the cooking begin! I adore cooking, and couldn't be happier about a holiday based around the idea of cooking and eating. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Enjoy your friends and family.

so much cute.

skunkboy
These have nothing to do with weddings, but jeez, if they aren't the gosh darn'd cutest little things I've ever seen. Skunk Boy Creatures makes the most unique and adorable little stuffed personalities. If you have any little ones that might need a Christmas present, look no further. Skunk Boy also makes adorable Christmas tree ornaments (above), 'tis the season!

Make your Own Christmas Cracker Favours

The talented Nella from http://www.lostmykitty.etsy.com/ has kindly offered to share her DIY tips for making crackers- these are such a personal favour option and ideal for a festive wedding. Check out her Etsy shop that has unique wedding crafts all made with love and care. From mini photo albums to silk corsages, I am sure there is something that you will fall in love with as an individual piece for your wedding day.

What You’ll Need- Makes a 10 ¼ inch cracker with a 5” x 2” cylinder for filling.

  1. Wrapping paper (cut to 7” x 12”) – It is important to use a thicker paper as crackers made with thin sheets will tear apart too easily while being constructed.
  2. Center tube (5” x 6” sealed with glue or tape) and ends (cut into 2” x 6” strips) – I purchased a sheet of handmade 90 weight ivory paper.
  3. Cracker snaps
  4. Fillers: fortunes, jokes, riddles, or a Christmas themed cutout; small gifts; and chocolates – I’ve used Sterling Silver Christmas charms and pretty silver ornaments for mine.
  5. Organza ribbon (two 12” and one 5” strips)
  6. Jingle Bells – It just wouldn’t be Christmas without that particular little jingle!
  7. Utility Knife
  8. Scissors
  9. Metal Ruler
  10. Cutting MatGlue Stick and Tape

Instructions:

Step 1 – Divide your 12” Wrapping paper sheet lengthwise at the intervals 2” 1.5” 5” 1.5” 2”. Draw lines along those intervals. Now mark ½” up the sheet in the 1.5” space and then score on each side. This will make it much easier to close your cracker ends without it tearing.

Step 2 –
Glue and tape down your Cracker snap to the lengthwise center of the sheet.

Step 3 –

Tape one end of the paper and roll the paper onto the center tube using the center lines you’ve drawn as a guide. Add a strip of glue to the edge of the wrapping paper and seal.

Step 4 –

Tie off one end of your cracker with the 12” strip of organza ribbon. Be careful not to tie it too tight so as not to rip the paper. Now you are ready to fill your cracker!

Step 5 –

Here I have all the items I’ve put in my crackers I’ve attached the Sterling Silver Snowflake to one of the Christmas ornaments using the 5” strip of organza ribbon. Fill the cracker and tie off the other end using the remaining 12” strip of organza ribbon.

Step 6 –

Now that your cracker is complete, roll the 2” x 6” strips into the ends of the cracker to keep them nice and stiff.

Step 7 –

To add the jingle bells, thread each bell to each end of the organza ribbon. Push the bell down the ribbon and then tie a pretty little bow.

Step 8 –

Your cracker is now complete! Fight the urge to make it snap. I unfortunately couldn’t help myself with this one but it was the best two seconds ever!

What it will cost:

Paperchase Wrapping Paper 2m 3.50
25 Paperchase Round Ornaments 3.50
72 Paperchase Jingle Bells 3.50
90 weight Ivory paper from Jarrold’s 1.70
Roll of Ribbon from Jarrold’s .99
25 Cracker Snaps on Ebay 2.40
Sterling Silver Charms on Ebay 17.99
Chocolates from M&S 1.98

Total 2.40 per cracker. Can’t beat that price for Sterling Silver!

help!

surveysays
I'm in the process of doing a little tune-up on Something Old, Something New - a little tweak here, a little re-design there, something new for the new year. I'm in need of some input from you, the people who read this blog and make it all worth while. So I put together a little survey that will give me my much needed info. If you have a spare 30 seconds (I swear, that's all it takes) I would be so grateful if you could fill it out. The answers you give will help me make this site an even more fun place to visit! Thank you, thank you, thank you in advance for helping! Click here to fill in the survey.

{guest post: braving the cold}

{written by kjg for this is glamorous:}

Several winters ago, I decided that one way to beat the onset of Seasonal Affectiveness Disorder was to purchase the most beautiful winter coat I could find. Unfortunately, I never found it, so my search continued the following year.

I must have tried on over 70 winter coats over those two years, but the search ended abruptly once I discovered Mackage, the fashion outerwear label by childhood friends Eran Elfassy and Elisa Dohan from Montreal. I chose the quintessential Mackage coat: double-breasted, military-inspired black wool with leather belt and detailing. It fit perfectly and had the kind of attention to detail that makes Mackage stand out from the sea of wool coats.

Mackage makes couture-inspired, body-conscious outerwear with precise tailoring and an artistic, youthful edge. Elfassy and Dohan were only 20 years old when they launched their first collection of chic outerwear to a receptive, international audience. Their success has led to showrooms opening in Toronto, New York and Paris. Season after season, Mackage reinvents itself, experimenting with an array of collars, sleeves, accessories and fabrics. Though wool coats make up the majority of their collection, they have expanded their collection to include leather and nylon and, more recently, a knitwear division featuring oversized cardigans, turtlenecks and tube dresses.

i'm it.

random
Turns out, I've been blog tagged by Ashley L. of Decor Amor, so I had to think of 7 random things about myself. This is harder than you might think. I know a lot of stuff about myself, but I don't know which ones are random and which ones aren't. I googled "random" and this was the second or third image that popped up. It didn't really help me narrow it down. Anyway, here's my stab at it!~

1} I have two sisters, one of them is my identical twin. Whenever we meet each other's friends for the first time, they're always fascinated that we have the exact same laugh.

2} I'm addicted to House among other symptom-based medical shows. I'm pretty sure I qualify for a white coat by now. At least a stethoscope? ... maybe one more season.

3} I've been working on the same honeycomb quilt for the last 5 years. It's hexagon after hexagon of yellow fabrics stitched together by hand. I'm guessing it'll be a 50th birthday present for my husband, he's thirty-three now, so that gives me... just about enough time.

4} I cry at sporting events. Basketball, gymnastics, track and field... whenever anyone wins at anything. The Olympics are downright embarrassing for me. The other day I went to the web page for the New York City Marathon... lets just say I got "misty". For a website!

5} We have an Italian Greyhound named Shorty. When we had our regular low-Def television, he didn't care about dogs on TV. Now that we have the fancy high definition TV, he has to jump and bark at the screen whenever there's a dog. Even a cartoon dog. Even a panda. Any mammal besides humans. Watching Planet Earth is a real test of patience. Sort of takes the fun out of high-def.

6} I am completely musically incapable. Humming is a challenge. My husband laughs at me when I whistle.

7} Home Decor magazines and french fries are my greatest weaknesses. I find both irresistible.
