Juke Box Love Song

I could take the Harlem night
and wrap around you,
Take the neon lights and make a crown,
Take the Lenox Avenue busses,
Taxis, subways,
And for your love song tone their rumble down.
Take Harlem's heartbeat,
Make a drumbeat,
Put it on a record, let it whirl,
And while we listen to it play,
Dance with you till day--
Dance with you, my sweet brown Harlem girl.

karrie asked me (back in february!) to help with a color board for her october wedding:
colors are deep, dark plum and golden poppy. I would love to accent with an antique gold or something like that, but I have no idea what would work. We are such crazy people; the ceremony is in the Japanese botanical gardens, the reception is at this gorgeous garden restaurant (very rustic old worldy), and W. and I dressing very Harlem Renaissance (cream, grey, drapey satin, him in tiny pinstripe vest with rolled up oxford shirt)...how more far apart can we get in terms of these, you know? We have very old world, rustic, organic and warm sensibilities and would like to portray that somehow...
i'm no snippet&ink, and it has sadly taken me forever to post this because i don't quite feel it's finished --

dear readers, help karrie out: can you find something (etsy, inspiration board elsewhere, great idea) that fits this description?

plus -- *any* excuse to post this gorgeous poem.
happy friday, everyone!

I've posted about the wonderful Japanese art of folding fabric before, but I found these amazing hair accessories on Etsy the other day, and thought I'd post them before I headed out for the weekend. I love the delicate folds and the bright pops of color, each one is a little work of art!
I'm planning a full weekend of nursery decorating, bulb planting, and painting. It will be a miracle if I can do all three! The weather IS supposed to be nice, and I don't have any other obligations... so I've got my fingers crossed for an uber-productive two days with a little sunshine mixed in. Enjoy your weekends everyone, and see you Monday!

it has been a whole week, and all you got for waiting was this lousy tax sampler.

(i should make t-shirts!)

sigh. another tax day come and gone -- for my U.S. readers, hope yours was painless.

it has been a busy week! i have a backlog of posts waiting to go so please stay tuned.

while i'm at it -- as if you didn't have enough coming at you, just stumbled into daily candy's wedding section. this is likely old news, as i don't read many wedding blogs, but just in case you're feeling masochistic like you need a zillion more temptations, there it is. some good local stuff!

in my week off i sadly missed the boat on belcanto's first shop birthday, so go check out marni's gorgeous things regardless, and happy birthday!

finally, if you don't get etsy finds emails, monday's was a lovely collection of eco-friendly etsy wedding items...

more as i catch up with email and posts -- thank you as always for your patience and for reading :)

p.s. the handymen are coming tomorrow to fix my ruined ceiling. hooray!

garden party!

gardenpartydress
The prim-properness of these dresses in their happy spring colors is making me jones for a nice garden party to go to. Perhaps I could wear the dress on the left? I know that my bump would be too big for the one on the right, but the one on the left...? (*rubs chin, seriously considers purchase*) I think I could do it! You wear the one on the right... I'll wear the one on the left. See you at the artichoke dip!

twigs and honey

twighoney
Twigs and Honey make some of my absolute favorite floral accessories. Their new website is positively loaded with one great piece after the other, but the headbands are my hands-down favorites. Check them out!

back!

marcbouwer
I hope everyone had a great holiday! Welcome back! We worked a bit on the nursery this weekend... it felt great to get started! I'm one of those people who is constantly looking for a project, something outside of work... and this is the ultimate project! If you guys are interested, I'll post pics when I'm done :) For now though, back to the wonderful world of wedding stuff!
I'm jumping right in to share this amazing gown I stumbled on at Neiman Marcus. It's not necessarily meant to be a wedding gown, but I would be thrilled to wear it down the aisle just the same! I adore the color and the embroidered sash.
